Shakira’s Total Net Worth

Shakira’s reported net worth is around $300 million, comprising her music sales, touring, merchandise, and endorsements. This makes her one of the wealthiest female musicians in the world.

Shakira’s Early Life

Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll was born on February 2nd, 1977, in Barranquilla, Colombia.

Her passion for creation started when she was just four years old when she started writing poems, the first of which was titled ‘The Crystal Rose,’ or ‘La rose de cristal.’ Her father, a story writer, was always her idol, and she always pleaded to get her own typewriter after adoring the time she spent watching her father on his.

At the age of seven, Shakira was given one for Christmas, a gift she would spend hours using to write poems about anything and everything. Over time, however, these poems evolved into a song format.

She had tried to sing for years but was rejected from the school choir for having a ‘vibrato that was too strong,’ as well as experiencing issues in her classes because she was too ‘hyperactive.’

But, she never gave up.

When she was 12 to 13, she started performing at local events, usually singing while accompanied by the belly dancing that helped make her so famous years later.

After impressing the judges, she was given a meeting with Sony Colombia executive Ciro Vargas.

After some convincing by him with the Sony executives, they agreed to a proper audition which surprisingly led to the signing of three record deals, and so Shakira’s rise to music fame began.

Shakira’s Rise To Stardom

Shakira’s music career officially began when she was just 13 years old. She released her first album, Magia, in 1991. However, it wasn’t until her third album, Pies Descalzos, that Shakira achieved commercial success. The album sold over four million copies worldwide and earned her a Grammy nomination for Best Latin Pop Album.

Since then, Shakira has released eight studio albums, five live albums, and multiple compilations. One of her more recent albums, El Dorado, released in 2017, reached number one after three weeks of being in the Billboard 200 chart. It also won a Latin Grammy Award for Album of the Year and marked her sixth number one album in the Latin Album Charts.

She has won numerous awards, including four MTV Video Music Awards, three Grammy Awards, 39 Latin Grammy Awards, seven Billboard Music Awards, and 28 Billboard Latin Music Awards. She has also been nominated for a Golden Globe Award.

She has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, six Guinness World Records, and a six-ton, five-meter tool monument of herself in her hometown of Barranquilla, Columbia.

In 2009, she was listed as the 52nd most powerful woman in the world by Forbes.

Shakira On Screen

As with many modern artists, Shakira has never limited herself to the stage or music studio but has frequently made movie and television appearances, usually in the form of a cameo of herself.

Even back in 1994, Shakira appeared in the show El oasis, where she played the role of Luisa Maria Rico, but this was the only time she played another character. Some of the other shows she appeared in include:

  • Popstars Brazil
  • Taina
  • Ugly Betty
  • Wizards of Waverly Place
  • Dora the Explorer and Friends: Into the City
  • She was a judge on The Voice
  • Dreamland
  • And many more

In terms of movies, Shakira has only really appeared in documentaries, including her very own, titled A Day with Shakira, as well as Jennifer Lopez’s Halftime documentary and several Latina biopics from back then. However, she did voice Gazelle in the Zootopia animation movie back in 2016.

All of this combined should clearly show that Shakira is a very busy and successful woman and is as multi-talented as it can get.

Shakira’s Husband

Shakira was married to soccer superstar Gerard Pique from 2011 to 2022. The couple finally separated in 2022 after having issues. Shakira broke her silence about the separation, citing that Pique cheated on her numerous times. Shakira was also forced to focus on the kids and sacrifice her career since Pique refused to do so. The couple had two children in their 11 years together.

Shakira Now

Shakira is one of those artists that dips in and out of the charts. She’s not constantly striving for that number one spot but instead comes back every few years with some incredible music that captures the hearts and souls of millions around the world.

Many of us remember her from her peak in 2009 with hits like Wherever, Whenever, and Hips Don’t Lie, but even in 2015 and 2020, she was releasing albums like Sale el Sol and the self-titled Shakira, albums that were nominated for awards like Album of the Year and Best Female Pop Vocal Album, showing the world that Shakira has still got it.

Of course, Shakira still tours worldwide and is currently working on her 12th studio album, but she sold her catalog of 145 songs from throughout her career to the Hipgnosis Songs Fund, a fund that takes music and instead takes it from an investment standpoint, and basically is trying to redefine how music royalties work.

However, Shakira is still hard at work.

In 2022, she’s working on a dance-based reality competition and television show, Dancing With Myself, on which she’s an executive producer alongside other hit artists, Liza Koshy (YouTube Star) and Nick Jonas.

Shakira’s Tax Troubles

Shakira, the Colombian singer, has been under legal scrutiny in Spain due to allegations of tax evasion. In 2021, a judge in Barcelona determined there was enough evidence for her to stand trial for potential tax evasion during 2012, 2013, and 2014.

The main contention is that Shakira failed to pay approximately €14.5m ($13.9m) in taxes on her income during these years. The Spanish government has charged her with defrauding the country of this amount between 2012 and 2014.

Shakira has defended herself, stating she wasn’t a resident of Spain during this period, a time when she was accused of evading $15 million in taxes. Her tax issues have been a significant topic of discussion in the media.

In Conclusion

All of this shows how hard-working Shakira is; even to this day, she still has her head down as she works on new music and other business ventures. It’s amazing to see how much she’s accomplished in her career, and we can’t wait to see what she does next.

Shakira is a true icon, and there’s no doubt that she’ll continue to be one of the most popular artists in the world for many years to come.

She clearly deserves the net worth she’s worked so hard for throughout her entire career, and she shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. She is a true inspiration to many and is proof that hard work pays off.

What do you think about Shakira’s success? We’d love to hear from you!
